Brentford B enter the new year on top of the Greater London Division One North table following a 2-0 win over Enfield Town Development on Sunday.

Goals from Aleksandra Dzikowska and Holly Hawkes were enough to secure the three points and helped Brentford to their 10th win in a row.

The Bees wasted little time stamping their authority on the game, going 1-0 up on four minutes thanks to a strong effort from Dzikowska.

Brentford’s pressure in Enfield Town’s half forced their keeper to kick the ball out of play. Nia Bowman then threw the ball back in quickly to Hawkes, whose quick flick with the outside of her foot found Dzikowska, who just got her boot to the ball before the diving Enfield Town keeper, leaving the ball to roll into an empty net.

The Bees' momentum continued in the first half, as they dominated possession and found their way into dangerous areas inside the box, but were unable to finish off their work.

That changed on 30 minutes; Brentford’s press getting some reward for effort to go up 2-0. Strong forward pressure from Shania Foley and Freya Morgan helped Karen Abou-Abdallah intercept a pass in the middle of the pitch, Foley pouncing on the loose ball and finding Hawkes who found the bottom-left corner.

Sensing the game slipping away, Enfield Town slowly turned the momentum in their favour as the break approached, putting the Bees under pressure while they were in possession. Their best chance came through a free-kick from the edge of the box on 40 minutes, however a strong Brentford wall deflected the strike away.

Foley started the second half where she had left off in the first 45 minutes, again finding Hawkes with a through ball, however the sharpshooter’s strike went just wide of the post.

Both sides continued to attack in search of a goal, Brentford looking to put the the game beyond doubt as early as possible while the home side attempted to get back into it.

Enfield Town’s best chance of the second half came on 80 minutes, when a dangerous free-kick put them in a good place to score, however it was defended well by the Bees.

While a win was all but secured as the game drew to a close, Brentford continued to attack as they searched for a third goal. Dzikowska won the ball back in Enfield Town’s half, finding a breaking Abigail Claringbold whose shot was well saved by the home side’s keeper to keep the score at 2-0.

Brentford Women B head coach Tommy Ryan-Maynard was pleased with his side's final effort before the Christmas break.

“I was really pleased with the way we played, there were lots of times where we were very dominant, but we’ve just got to keep pushing during the game to get more goals and take more of our chances and being a little bit more clinical in that final third,” he said.

“The defence did really well and there was lots of good combination play from the midfield. It was a great way to finish before the Christmas break.”
