Brentford beat AFC Leyton 3-0 in another brilliant performance in the Greater London Division One North at Bedfont Sports Club on Sunday.

The B team remain top of the league following the win with goals from, Kasey Clifford, Abigail Claringbold and Jasmine King continuing the side’s unbeaten start to the season.

The Bees made a quick start to the match with the side searching for an early goal, just five minutes in the hosts were unfortunate to not be awarded a penalty.

A deep cross into the box struck an AFC Leyton’s defender’s arm with the referee deciding to let play continue as the visitors cleared their lines.

Brentford had been an unstoppable force in the opening half in the majority of their games this season, but the first half against AFC Leyton proved to be a tight affair with both sides having to settle for very few chances.

The visitors had a good opportunity on 20 minutes when their forward was played through but Emily Boycott made a good save for the Bees to keep the score line level.

Brentford came out in the second half determined to continue their win streak and it was Clifford who put the side ahead seven minutes after the interval with a stunning free-kick.

The attacking midfielder placed the ball down 35 yards from goal and unleashed a powerful strike which flew into the top corner.

Brentford began playing their free flowing football following the opener as the hosts dominated possession in the second half.

Claringbold doubled the side’s lead on 66 minutes when Lillie Elsbury clipped a fanstastic ball over the top of the opposition’s defence, the striker showed great composure to dribble towards goal before smashing the ball into the roof of the net.

The Bees were in their groove and made it 3-0 through Jasmine King, a player who has been gaining important minutes for the B team as she regains her fitness.

The midfielder latched onto a loose ball from 30 yards out and showed unbelievable awareness to spot the AFC Leyton keeper off her line with her shot from distance lobbing the shot stopper.

The goal sealed the win for the Bees continuing their unbeaten start to the season and taking their win streak to four games.

Reflecting on another victory, Brentford coach Tommy Ryan-Maynard was pleased with how his side remained calm in the second half despite being desperate for another win.

He said: “I was really happy with the way we controlled the game, it was a tough battle in the first 45 minutes but in the second half we started playing with a good tempo which lead to us getting a good result.

“When we went 1-0 you could see we was beaming with confidence, we were creating lots of chances and could have actually scored more than we did but overall, I’m really happy.

“It’s also worth giving the defence a mention, Izzy (Edwards) was quality at the back for us again and was instrumental to us keeping a clean sheet.”
