Brentford Women were defeated 2-0 by Bristol City Under-21s at Bedfont Sports Club on Wednesday night.
The clash was the Bees fifth of the pre-season to date, Wednesday night the side's first loss thus far.
It was a competitive start to the game from both sides, each keen to play from the back and keep possession where possible.
Brentford had the best chance of the first half after Chloe Logie was taken down on the edge of the box and awarded a penalty. Logie stepped up to take the shot, however Ella Stowell made a superb save in goal for the visitors.
Chloe Giddings almost gave Bristol the lead minutes later, but Freya Walker was there to make a good save in goal for Brentford.
Walker was superb in the opening 45 minutes, the keeper making a handful of strong saves. She was called into action on 33 minutes as Bristol found themselves on the break and one-on-one with the keeper, saving what would have been a certain goal.
Coming out for the second half Maddie Phillips went straight on the attack for the Bees, her long range shot saved by the outstretched arms of Stowell.
Bristol continued to push for an opener too, Emily Giddings seeing two shots go either side of the goal in quick succession.
Ashley Cheatley found herself on the end of a through ball from Phillips just after the hour mark, however her shot was sent straight into the hands of Stowell.
The visitors broke the stranglehold on 74 minutes, Emily Cadell finding the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Brentford's best chance of the second half came on 78 minutes, Phillips crossing it into the box, the ball rebounding to Ella Cottrell whose shot from close range was deflected away.
Despite the Bees' best efforts it was Bristol who found a second goal through Helena Costa, where the scoreline would stay until the final whistle was blown.
