Chloe Webb says the Bees are 'up for the challenge' as Brentford Women welcome Ascot United to Bedfont Sports Club for their FA Cup first round proper clash on Sunday (kick-off 3pm).
Karleigh Osborne's side have won every game they have played so far this season but will face their toughest challenge to date this weekend as they come up against an Ascot outfit who are also undefeated, and who ply their trade in the Southern Region Premier Division, one league above Brentford.
Webb has played a key part in Brentford’s success this season with the left-back featuring in all 11 games so far, but she says this match feels a little different.
“It’s going to be a really tough game on Sunday and a great watch for the fans in attendance as we come up against a team in the division above who are also yet to lose this season,” explained Webb.
“The form we are in is just incredible and I believe there’s no stopping the team this season. The attacking power and the structured defence we have has made for a really efficient side, and I think we can beat most teams on any given day.”
Brentford put on a brilliant performance in last season’s FA Cup first round against National League side Southampton Women.
The home side forged an unbelievable comeback in front of the Bedfont crowd after finding themselves 3-0 down in the opening 35 minutes.
Nikki Woods was involved in all the goals to level the game, scoring twice and assisting once as the Bees took the match to extra-time in dramatic fashion.
Southampton managed to find the net deep into the second half of extra-time to claim a 4-3 win and knock Brentford out despite a performance they could be proud of.
“Last season’s game was great to be a part of and we came so close to doing something special. The atmosphere was unbelievable; I’ve never heard Bedfont like that so hopefully the fans can replicate that noise this weekend.
“We have a shot at making history again and following last season’s disappointment at this stage of the competition, it would mean absolutely everything to get through to the second round on Sunday.”
Last time out
Brentford Women cruised to a massive 15-0 victory in the league over Richmond Park in their previous fixture, extending their winning streak to 11 games and solidifying their place at the top of the table.
The side will go into this weekend’s FA Cup first round game in dominant form following the huge victory in front of their home fans.
Five goals each from Chloe Logie and Ashley Cheatley led the way for the Bees at Bedfont Sports Club, with Nikki Woods, Samantha Read, Lucy Potter, Carolin Engelhard and Paula Holguin each adding one.
