Two late strikes from either side saw Brentford claim a point against East London in what was a tough match on Sunday at Wanstead Flats Playing Fields.

An even opening half saw Brentford create the better of the chances with the side having to wait until 75 minutes to eventually break the deadlock through an Orla McComb finish. The Brentford lead only lasted a matter of minutes though as East London fought back to level the score line ensuring both sides left with a share of the points.

Tommy Ryan-Maynard made two changes to the side that beat Enfield Town 6-0 last weekend with Orla McComb and Nia Bowman both introduced to the starting line-up.

The opening 10 minutes set the tone for the rest of the game with both sides battling hard in what was an even contest.

It was East London who nearly got themselves ahead in the opening stages of the match when a free-kick from the left flank curled towards the far corner, clipping the post before going out of play.

The Bees saw their best chances of the half come in the last five minutes, on 40 minutes Nia Bowman made a great run down the right wing and delivered a pinpoint cross to Freya Morgan.

The attacker caught the ball well on the volley but her shot was comfortably saved by the East London keeper.

Brentford kept the pressure on and this time it was Shania Foley down the right flank crossing to Bowman who chested the ball down before firing a shot which was well blocked.

The second half saw the Bees dominate the majority of the ball as the side showed patience as they attempted to unlock a stern East London defence.

Brentford were finally rewarded for their hard work with a goal on 75 minutes courtesy of McComb.

The ball was worked out well to the right channel where Bowman took on her marker and delivered a low cross to the far post finding McComb who slotted home from close range.

Just a minute later East London found an equaliser when a defensive error allowed the hosts forward to pounce and clip the ball past stand-in keeper, Holly Hawkes.

Brentford put the pressure on in the remaining minutes of the game but were unable to threaten the East London goal as the sides played out a draw.

Speaking on the match, B team head coach Ryan-Maynard was left proud of his side’s performance as they faced off against a team that beat the Bees twice last season.

He said: “I was absolutely buzzing with how we played, I thought the team were brilliant from start to finish and the players that came on were really good also.

“It was a fantastic game of football from both teams and they were really hard to break down but we kept working for 90 minutes, so I can’t complain.”
