It was a day to remember for Brentford Women as they returned to Gtech Community Stadium, the 4,856-strong crowd last Sunday matching Women’s Super League crowds so far this season.
For the first time ever, Brentford produced a women’s home match shirt, featuring official club partner PensionBee as the front-of-shirt sponsor, as well the CPQR code, created by Resuscitation Council UK who are part of the club’s Heart of West London initiative.
The shirt also featured players’ names and numbers on the back of their jersey for the first time, with fans able to buy shirts featuring their favourite player’s name or customised with their own.
The crowd of 4,856 fans was a strong and loud one on matchday, the number bettering Manchester City’s WSL average crowd of 3,306 so far this season.
The Bees enjoyed a men’s first team matchday experience, beginning with pre-match at the Robert Rowan Performance Centre, followed by a coach journey to the Gtech.
Matchday staff were on hand to produce an entertaining day for fans, with former Brentford Women players interviewed pitch side, alongside interviews with head coach Karleigh Osborne and players Mollie Holmes and Samantha Read.
The 6-1 win over Ashmount Leigh ensured a positive end to the day, players then engaging with fans during a lap of the stadium, many supporters sporting the women’s home match shirt.
