Mollie Holmes featured for Brentford Women on Sunday afternoon as they left the Douglas Eyre Sports Centre with a share of the points.
The Women’s first team put in a good performance away from home but were left disappointed by the 2-2 to draw against Hackney Women in the London South East Regional Women’s Football League Division One North.
Speaking on the game, Holmes said: “The result wasn’t what we wanted but I think we battled really well and scored some great goals.
“I think some decisions that got given against us dictated the game and we had our backs against the wall right from the off.”
Despite the Bees playing some good football at times it took them until the 56 minute to get the opener through a Kirsty Matthews wonder strike.
The winger displayed her quality once again as she latched onto a loose ball and unleashed a powerful volley from around 30 yards out which flew into the top corner.
Hackney got themselves back on level terms just two minutes later however, through Natalie White.
Talking on the two goals, Holmes explained: “Kirsty’s goal gave us a real boost and I felt after taking the lead we would kick on in the game but that wasn’t the case.

“We had been the better team throughout the game so to concede right after scoring was hard to take.”
After putting on the pressure Brentford soon got themselves in front again courtesy of Chloe Logie, the striker got onto a long throw and showed good composure to shift the ball to one side before smashing her shot into the roof of the net from inside the box.
However, similar to the first goal from the visitors, Hackney bounced back again to equalise ensuring the draw for the East London side when Kate Meeman tapped the ball into an empty net from three yards out.
Holmes continued: “It’s tough to take and despite playing well I think we all know we could have played better and we have done in previous weeks, that’s what makes it so frustrating.
“Everyone knows our goal for the season is to win the league title so a win against Hackney would have been ideal.”
The Brentford Women’s skipper then discussed how she feels the team will show their resilience in the coming weeks as they continue their hunt for promotion.
“I’m sure we’ll bounce back, there are still some positives to take so I believe we’ll keep going and get back to playing to the best of our abilities.
“I think these situations make us stronger and brings everyone together, we all have each other’s back in this team and I don’t feel that I necessarily need to say too much as captain because I’ve seen us come back stronger from results like this before.”
