Brentford proceed to the second round of the Trophy Cup following a brilliant 4-1 win over Welling United on Sunday.
The Bees came up against a Welling side who play their league football the London South East Division One South. The visitors were dominant from start to finish as they cruised to a comfortable victory with goals from Samantha Read, Chloe Logie, Freya Worsley and Ella Cottrell ensuring the win.
Brentford made a good start with Chloe Logie looking a threat leading the line for the away side, the forward thought she had opened the scoring within the first 10 minutes when she was played through by Freya Worsley but the linesman raised his flag.
Brentford got their early goal on 22 minutes through an unlikely scorer in Read, the defender brilliantly flicked the ball into the net from cross range after a Brentford corner was helped on by Worsley.
The Bees continued to push forward as they dominated possession and were rewarded for their hard work before the break.
Logie showed good skill to beat her marker but was kicked down in the process as the referee awarded the visitors a penalty. The striker slotted her spot kick into the bottom corner in neat fashion to continue her fine run of goal scoring form.
The second half proved to be more of the same with Brentford pushing forward on the hunt for more goals as Welling offered little threat in attacking positions.
On 57 minutes Karleigh Osborne’s side made it three, this time it was Worsley who struck the ball perfectly from around 30 yards out with her shot lobbing the Welling keeper.
Welling did manage to find the back of the net, when their captain showed some good skill on the edge of the Brentford box to find space before unleashing a shot which flew into the top corner.
The hosts gained confidence from their goal and had a good chance to grab another moments later but Evie Witek made a smart save to keep Brentford’s two goal lead.
Brentford made Welling pay for not taking their chances as Cottrell found the back of the net moments after being introduced to the game.
Nour Aboul-Kheir played a great ball into the path of Logie whose initial shot was saved by the Welling keeper but Cottrell was on scene to tuck home the rebound.
