Brentford Women enjoyed a successful return to the London South East Division One North League, defeating Whyteleafe 4-0.

Chloe Logie starred with two second half goals, while Freya Worsley and Kirsty Matthews netted one each.

Head coach Karleigh Osborne took an unchanged side into the clash following an impressive 2-1 win in the Trophy Cup last weekend.

It was an even contest across the opening 10 minutes, Brentford enjoying more looks at the goal, but Whyteleafe’s defenders made life difficult for the Bees’ attackers.

Logie earned the visitors best shot on target in the opening half, firing a shot on 25 minutes that went straight to the Whyteleafe keeper who made a good save.

Nikki Woods hit the side of the net two minutes later, the Bees continuing to build momentum as the first half wore on.

Having dominated the middle stages of the first half, Brentford’s persistence paid off on 35 minutes, Worsley finding herself one-on-one with the Whyteleafe keeper and netting her first goal to give the Bees a 1-0 lead.

Osborne’s side carried that momentum into the second half, Logie getting some reward for effort when she found the back of the net for her first goal to double the Bees’ lead in the opening five minutes.

The striker nearly added a second goal minutes later, Worsley’s cross from the left side falling to Logie in the box, whose shot went just left of the goal.

Logie was in with a chance to score her second again minutes later, however her shot was well saved by the Whyteleafe keeper diving to her left. Matthews was at the fall of the ball, the winger firing the ball back into the goal to make it 3-0.

Woods continued to run and create, pushing the ball through the middle of the pitch on the hour mark and firing a long range shot which went just left of the goal.

With a win seemingly in the bag, Brentford continued to press for a fourth goal, dominating possession across the second half of the second 45 minutes.

They got just that inside the final 10 minutes, Logie finding the back of the net for her second goal to round out an impressive performance by the Bees.

Brentford Women: Witek, Graver, Holmes (Troth, 70'), Logie, Webb (Heavingham-Ford, 74'), Woods (Edwards, 68'), Matthews, Worsley, Cottrell (Davies, 76'), Read, Ferns (Mirjan, 76')

Osborne pleased with his side's winning return to league action

Brentford Women head coach Karleigh Osborne was full of praise for his side as they claimed their first three league points of the new year.

After dominating much of the first half but only managing one goal, Osborne was pleased with the Bees finishing ability in the second 45 minutes to end the game with four goals.

"Over the moon with the performance ... I thought it was a good, strong, consistent 90 minutes, but the second half we just took it up another gear and really showed our quality, so I was really pleased with that," said Osborne.

"We were more ruthless in the second half and we wore them down. Whyteleafe are a good team to be fair ... but the way that we played, we found really good pockets and in the second half we were a lot better and more intentional with our final ball."

With a big second half of the league season to come for Brentford, Osborne touched on the importance of getting an early win in the new year to set his side up going forward.

"We haven't played a (league) game for 11 weeks ... everyone knows what our objective is, which is to win the league," said Osborne.

"Today was really important that we got a win and got the points on the board and we did that and we did it in real good style.

"We need to keep doing that, but we'll take it game-by-game and just make sure that we give ourselves the best chance to finish the season as strong as we can."
