Brentford Women could be crowned league champions on Sunday afternoon as they face Watford Ladies Development in the LSE Regional Women’s Football League Division One North at Bovingdon Football Club in a 2pm kick-off.
The Bees will need to win their final game of the campaign and hope Dorking Wanderers drop points against Dulwich Hamlet Reserves also on Sunday afternoon if they are to win the league.
It has been a two-horse race for the majority of the season with Brentford Women and Dorking Wanderers battling it out for the league title with the women’s first team head coach Karleigh Osborne insisting his side will fight until the end.
He said: “My side know what they have to do this weekend, I can’t fault them for how they have performed so far this season and I have belief that they will get the win on Sunday against a good Watford Development side.
“We can’t control what goes on in the Dorking game, at the end of the day they are a good team who we have pushed right until the end so despite how the results on Sunday go, we can hold our heads up high.”
Osborne’s side ensured they kept the pressure on the league leaders following their 2-1 win over AFC Whyteleafe last weekend.
The Bees put on a professional display away from home as Chloe Logie struck in both halves to ensure Brentford moved just a point behind Dorking who are on 42.
Talking on last weekend’s win, Osborne said: “It was a top performance again from the ladies against a Whyteleafe side who have beaten some good teams this season so it was good to see us remain calm despite there being a huge amount of pressure on us.
“We have gone on a great run in the league at the right time with six victories in a row and with the form we are in I expect us to make it seven this weekend. We all want nothing more than promotion into the premier division and I feel like we would be ready for the move up if we were to win the league.”
Last time we met
It was a historic day for Brentford Women the last time the two sides met with Osborne’s team defeating Watford Ladies Development 4-2 at the Gtech Community Stadium where they performed for the first time in front of a record crowd of 5,116. The Bees broke the attendance record for a tier six women’s game with Kirsty Matthews, Chloe Logie and Eleonora Cottrell adding to an own goal as Brentford fought back from a goal down to leave with all three points.
