Brentford Women’s B team saw defeat in their final game of the season on Wednesday evening.

The Bees fought until the end and can be proud of their efforts but goals from Liliana Almedia, Jordan Feldman and Shanice Taylor-Newsam saw Leyton Orient leave Bedfont Sports Club with the win.

The women’s B team would have been looking to end the season on a high as they came up against a Leyton Orient side who narrowly beat them to the league title.

The Bees made a positive start to the game and looked dangerous on both flanks with Holly Hawkes and Aleksandra Dzikowska seeing plenty of the ball early on.

It was Leyton Orient who got themselves in front within 15 minutes though when Izzy Edwards brought down the visitors forward inside the box with the referee deeming the challenge to be a foul and pointed to the spot.

Almedia tucked her penalty into the bottom corner to put the visitors a goal up.

Brentford recovered well from the goal and had good spells of possession for periods in the first half but struggled to create any goal-scoring opportunities.

Abigail Claringbold worked hard for Brentford

Almedia looked a threat for the away side and came close just after the half-hour mark when her shot from inside the box went inches past the post.

There were few chances for either side in the first half as Orient went into the break with the lead.

The away team came out in the second half looking strong and came close to doubling their lead only to be denied by Lillie Elsbury who made a brilliant tackle to stop Feldman’s shot.

Brentford were battling hard but were having trouble breaking down a stern Orient defence, Calli Weaver played what looked like a great pass into the path of Abigail Claringbold but the visitor’s keeper did well to gather the ball.

The league champions doubled their lead on 68 minutes when Taylor-Newsam played through Feldman who smashed the ball into the bottom corner.

Orient extended their lead on 79 minutes after Taylor-Newsam attempted to cross from the right wing but found the back of the net lobbing Sophie Boycott.

Cheyenne Faulkner made a positive impact from the bench

The Bees had a late effort on goal on 87 minutes when Hannah Quinton found space inside the opposition's box but her effort from a tight angle could only find the side netting as the women’s B team were defeated on the final game of the season.

Despite the defeat head coach Tommy Ryan-Maynard and assistant head coach Charlotte Tanner were proud of their side’s efforts.

Talking on the game, Tanner said: “It was a bittersweet ending to the season, we didn’t do the simple parts right unfortunately but we disciplined ourselves well it was just unfortunate that we couldn’t get the three points.”

Brentford were playing some good football at times but struggled to create when they got into the final third.

Ryan-Maynard explained how he felt the lack of creativity in the final passages of play is what cost his side on the night.

“I felt like we had nice spells of possession which was really good and we looked after the ball but I think the gaps in between our units were way too big which cost us,” said the head coach.

He went on to explain how proud he is of his team’s efforts this season as they pushed Orient right until the end before just missing out on the title.

“We’re massively proud of the team, I can’t say that enough because every single one of the girls have developed so much this season.

“Seeing how they have come together as a team and bonded, it looks like they have been together playing for a long time which is great to see.”
