Brentford Women’s B team showed their class against Civil Service Women as they sealed their place in the semi-finals of the Capital Cup Junior Section on Sunday evening after a 2-0 win.
The B team dominated possession in the opening 45 but had to wait until the second half for their goals which came courtesy of Charlotte Halpin and Kasey Clifford ensuring the victory for the Bees.
In the build-up to the game assistant head coach Charlotte Tanner said she was looking for a fast start from her team and that’s exactly what she got.
The first opportunity of the game fell to Chelsey Logan after the ball was worked out to the winger who cut inside from the right flank and unleashed a shot towards goal, but her effort went just wide.
On 24 minutes Karen Abou-Abdallah got on the end of a loose ball following a Brentford corner kick and riffled a strike towards goal from distance but again the effort went wide of the post.
Despite a strong start from the hosts, it was Civil Service who had the best chance of the game so far just after the half-hour mark.
A deep cross from the Civil Service midfielder was met by Brentford number one Emily Boycott who wasn’t able to hold the ball allowing the opposition's forward to have a close-range shot on goal but luckily for the Bees, Nia Bowman was on the line to clear the ball away.

The B team then saw their best chance of the half come and go moments later when Logan and Bowman linked up well down the right flank. Bowman slipped in her teammate, but the pass had too much pace on it allowing the Civil Service defender to clear the ball.
After a positive first half from Brentford with only a goal missing, it took the B team just four minutes to open the scoring in the second half.
After winning the ball on the halfway line Boman drove forward beating a number of Civil Service players along the way, the number 15 then delivered a perfect cross to the far post finding Halpin, who hit the ball on the volley into the back of the net putting the Bees in front.
Brentford were rampant in the second half as they continued to push forward in hopes of putting the game to bed.
Abigail Claringbold came close on 66 minutes when the number nine beat her defender and shot towards goal, but her strike could only find the side netting.
With 10 minutes to play the hosts managed to get their deserved second goal through Clifford.
Betsy Harwood who made a real impact from the bench broke through the Civil Service midfield and played a good pass out to Clifford on the right flank, the Bees captain then executed a perfect lobbed effort which chipped the Civil Service keeper in spectacular fashion.
Clifford’s goal wrapped up what was a perfect day for the B team ensuring their place in the semi-finals of the competition.

Speaking after the win, head coach Tommy Ryan-Maynard was left extremely pleased with what he saw from his side.
He said: “It was a convincing performance from us, I thought we did really well in terms of looking after the ball and showed throughout that we were the better team.
“We’re playing a lot of good football at the moment and considering we haven’t played in a few weeks we took what we have learnt in training into Sunday’s game which was great to see.
“We just need to remain consistent now and enter every game with that same tempo but I’m really happy for the players, they should be proud of themselves.”
