Brentford Women’s B team 3 Tooting Bec 1 – Capital Cup semi-final

The women’s B team booked their place in the Capital Cup Junior Section final following an impressive 3-1 victory over Tooting Bec at Bedfont Sports Club back in March. With Tooting playing in the opposite half of the Greater London Women’s Football League sitting second in the table at the time the game was always set out to be an even affair. Brentford skipper Kasey Clifford gave the Bees the lead on 40 minutes through an outstanding long-range free-kick but the visitors fired back moments before the break, with both sides going into the interval level. Both teams came out in the second half battling to find a goal and it was Clifford who stepped up again, this time scoring from the penalty spot. The number 20 sealed her hat-trick and ensured Brentford’s place in the Capital Cup final on 70 minutes following another long-range strike which lobbed the Tooting keeper.

Ruislip Rangers 2 Brentford Women’s B team 3 – Capital Cup Second Round

Three games before the clash with Tooting Bec the Bees were faced with the tough challenge of getting past Ruislip Rangers in the Second Round of the Capital Cup back in November. Ruislip who were previously unbeaten in all competitions in the division above the women’s B team found themselves a goal down early on when Karen Abou-Abdallah gave Brentford the lead. The home team responded well though and equalised on the half-hour mark before getting themselves ahead on the stroke of half-time. Brentford showed their resilience and got themselves back on level terms a few minutes after the break through striker, Abigail Claringbold. Claringbold was causing the hosts back line problems and was brought down on 56 minutes by the Ruislip keeper with the referee awarding the Bees a penalty. Clifford was reliable as ever from the spot and smashed her penalty into the bottom left corner sealing the win for her side.

Luton Town Reserves 0 Brentford Women’s B team 8 – Greater London WFL Division One North

The biggest away win of the season for the women’s first team came in the 8-0 thrashing of Luton Town Reserves. The visitors were dominant from start to finish with it taking them little to no time to begin their scoring spree with Maddie Heavingham-Ford getting the first just five minutes in. The defender struck again just after half-time but this was following first half goals from Cheyenne Faulkner, Calli Weaver and Kasey Clifford. Forward Ronica Musni scored her first goal for the club to make it 6-0 before Clifford slotted home again after being awarded a penalty. Charlotte Halpin’s strike sealed off what was a perfect day for the women’s B team and was a huge statement in their hunt for the league title.

Brentford Women’s B team 9 Tower Hamlets 0 - Greater London WFL Division One North

The side improved on their 8-0 win over Luton in February when they put nine past Tower Hamlets at Bedfont Sports Club. It was Clifford who stole the show again for Brentford in what was one of the performances of the season from the captain who scored four times for the hosts. Abigail Claringbold, Charlotte Halpin, Hannah Quinton, Josie Shand and Chelsey Logan were also all on target, with the latter grabbing her first in Brentford colours. Ryan-Maynard explained the win as “astonishing” and touched on the morale within the dressing room as one of the main reasons his side were having such an impressive season.

Brentford Women’s B team 1 AFC Wimbledon Girls Youth Development 1 (Brentford win 4-3 on penalties)

The most impressive game of the season came when Brentford met AFC Wimbledon Girls Youth Development in the quarter-finals of the Capital Cup. In what was an incredible journey to the final, the women’s B team faced off against a Wimbledon side who were top of the Greater London Women’s Football League Division Two Central & West. Despite the Bees' great run of form before the Christmas break, it had been six weeks since their last fixture, this may have explained why they found themselves a goal down inside the opening half hour. Like many other times this season, Claringbold was on call to put Brentford on level terms just before the break with a neat finish. The second half proved to be an extremely edgy affair between the two sides with the home team ramping up the pressure late on. Despite pinning Wimbledon back, the visitors managed to get to full-time without conceding another goal, taking the game to penalties. Clifford, Claringbold, and Izzy Edwards tucked their spot kicks home with Boycott making two brilliant saves before Lillie Elsbury stepped up and confidently slotted her penalty into the bottom left corner running straight to Boycott along with the rest of the team to celebrate their win.
