Four second-half goals from Dorking Wanderers saw Brentford Women’s First Team’s seven-game unbeaten run come to an end.
Despite the Bees going into Sunday’s game top of the London South East Regional Women’s Football League Division One North table, Dorking who sat in third, handed the hosts their first loss of the season back in August.
Manager, Karleigh Osborne wanted his players to use this defeat as motivation in the reverse fixture on Sunday and felt it was vitally important that his team got off to a strong start.
The First Team did exactly that with Nikki Saunders and Chloe Webb linking up especially well in the opening stages of the game.
Despite the positive start, it was the visitors who took the lead on 20 minutes through Gemma Shepperd.
The Dorking number nine latched onto Azza Fouly’s throw, allowing the striker to have a clear shot on goal which she tucked into the bottom corner from eight yards out.
The away side seemed to take confidence from their goal as they began to play some nice football in the Brentford half.
Despite this, the Bees continued to battle hard and after some brilliant link-up play, they got their equaliser on 41 minutes.
Captain, Sophie Troth found herself in space in the Dorking half and played through a brilliant ball to Chloe Logie. The number nine’s first touch set her up perfectly to have a strike on goal which she smashed into the bottom corner, increasing her goal tally to 13 for this season.
The Bees made the worst possible start to the second half as Dorking made it 2-1 on 46 minutes.
Katie Butts put her side in front through a close-range finish which crept past Fouly.
After working so hard to get their equaliser in the first half, the hosts seemed to have been disheartened by Dorking’s early goal in the penultimate half.
It wasn’t long until things got worst either, on 60 minutes Dorking got their third through Amber Hendra.
The number 17 volleyed the ball into the roof of the net from just inside the box as the away team’s corner kick was cleared by Brentford.
The home team showed great determination to continue to try and play their way back into the game and came inches away from halving the deficit five minutes later.
Webb carried the ball into the opposition's half before attempting a cross to the far post from the left wing, the number 11’s cross was goal bound however and clipped the bar before bouncing out of play.
Logie then had a header cleared off the line following a corner kick from Saunders, the striker was adamant that the ball had crossed the line, but the referee thought differently.
Demi Edwards began finding herself in space halfway into the second half and tested Dorking keeper, Jenna Morris with a good long-range strike.
Against the run of play, the away team got their fourth and it was Sheppard who tapped the ball into the net from close range after a nice move.
The striker got her second of the day and put the game out of sight for the Bees.
Substitute, Charlotte Keenan wrapped up the win for Dorking as she was first on scene to pass the ball into an open goal following a great save from Fouly.
