James Ferry and Seika Jatta netted as Brentford's Youth Team secured a well deserved three points at home to local rivals Queens Park Rangers.

The hosts dominated the game from the off but had to wait until five minutes before half-time to get their reward as Ferry smashed home from 10 yards.

Bradley Clayton, Zain Westbrooke, Reece Cole and Makhosini Khanye all had chanced to extend The Bees lead but were denied by a mixture of fine goalkeeping and some wayward finishing.

Eventually Jon De Souza's side did wrap up the win which keeps them top of the Under-18 Professional Development League Two South as Jatta finished off a sweeping break with five minutes remaining.

Tom Roberts made his first start of the season in goal while Decarey Sheriff, who scored in the win over Ipswich Town last week, came in to replace Makhosini Khanye.

QPR were dealt a blow early on as holding midfielder George Williams was forced off injured in the sixth minute to be replaced by Nathan Corkery.

It was the hosts who settled the quicker with Kyjuon Marsh-Brown and Sheriff getting early joy on either flank.

However QPR were getting men behind the ball quickly and forming a blue and white wall on the edge of their box as soon as The Bees entered the final third.

The Bees were finding it difficult to pick a pass through that wall of Rangers defenders and the visitors created a couple of chances on the break in the early stages.

Roberts made a smart save to deny Ross Elsom and Dan Darbyshire and Ruddi Clarke both shot over from the edge of the box.

After those early chances for the visitors it was Brentford who took the game by the scruff of the neck.

Clayton put a shot over the bar from 10 yards and then a fine flowing move ended with Ferry pulling a shot narrowly wide from the edge of the box.

Westbrooke was the next to go close as he missed the target from the edge of the box.

The majority of the match had been played in QPR's defensive third but the visitors reminded The Bees of their threat as Darbyshire and Clarke combined well forcing Roberts into a good low save.

The hosts had a big shout for a penalty turned down as Audrius Laucys shot appeared to hit a hand inside the box.

A defensive mix-up almost gifted QPR the lead just before the half-hour as Cole lost the ball just outside his box but Seth Owens got a vital touch to turn Gianni Critchlow's shot over the bar.

Playing into the wind Martin Herdman's kicking was getting Rangers into big trouble but he redeemed himself with a fabulous save, tipping Sheriff's shot onto the post, after his clearance had landed straight at the feet of The Bees winger.

Herdman was called into action again turning Tom Field's fierce volley behind before Cole's shot was deflected over the bar and Sheriff again tested Herdman from just inside the box.

Having dominated most of the first-half The Bees finally get their reward as Ferry skipped past a weak Brandon Barzey tackle and hammered the ball home from 10 yards.

The lead should have been doubled three minutes into the second-half as Sheriff broke down the left and squared for Clayton but Herdman was out in a flash to block Clayton's shot on the turn.

The pattern of the second-half was similar to that of the first with Brentford dominating but with QPR looking dangerous on the break.

Critchlow cut inside from the left wing and shot over while at the other end Cole fired a tame effort straight at Herdman from 25 yards.

Sheriff was replaced by Jatta on the hour and the tall striker had a chance to make an instant impact but he was the latest to be denied by Herdman.

Clayton could not believe he hadn't made it 2-0 with 20 minutes to go as Jack Williams appeared from nowhere to block his close range shot which was destined for the bottom corner.

If Clayton had been denied by great defending then the next chance The Bees passed up had nothing to do with good defending and all to do with poor finishing.

Great play by Westbrooke and Jatta down the left found Khanye all alone on the penalty spot but he sliced a first-time volley well wide when there was time to control and apply the finish.

Ferry shot wide from the edge of the area, Clayton was well denied by Herdman and then on the follow up Cole headed over from eight yards as Brentford failed to kill the game off.

That profligacy in front of goal almost came back to haunt Jon De Souza's side as QPR broke forward and Critchlow bore down on goal only for Roberts to rush out well and make a splendid block save.

That save was made to look even more important as The Bees finally made the game safe with five minutes to go as Khanye squared the ball and Jatta steadied himself and then sidefooted home from 10 yards.

Extra gloss could have been added to the score-line in injury time as Field's audacious chip from 25 yards hit the post and rolled along the line into the hands of a thankful Herdman.

As it was two goals was enough to secure a second straight win which keeps The Bees well positioned at the top of the Under-18 Professional Development League Two South.
