Saturday saw the return of the English Football League as clubs up and down the country played their first fixtures of the new season and there was game time for our loan players with some eye-catching results.
There are six Bees currently out on loan to build minutes and experience, five of which all featured yesterday in England, whilst Mads Bidstrup’s FC Nordsjælland are in action tomorrow against Lyngby in Denmark.
Lachlan Brook scored on his debut for Crewe Alexandra as they beat Rochdale 2-1 away from home to get off to a winning start in Sky Bet League Two. Dan Agyei put the side ahead on 14 minutes before Lachlan doubled Crewe's lead on 21 minutes when he struck in from 20-yards, beating the Rochdale keeper at his near post. The home side did pull a goal back but Lachlan, who featured for 70 minutes, and his side held out for the three points. The side face Harrogate Town at home next weekend.
AFC Wimbledon also got their campaign under way in League Two as they claimed all three points against Gillingham. Two Bees were involved on the day with Paris Maghoma playing the full match whilst Nathan Young-Coombes was a late substitute for the side. A goal in each half did the damage as they took away a 2-0 win with strikes from Ethan Chislett and Jack Currie. The Dons head to Hartlepool United next week looking to maintain their good start.
In the same division there was also a first appearance for Ellery Balcombe for Crawley Town as they were beaten 1-0 away at Carlisle United. The only goal of the game came on five minutes through Kristian Dennis as United claimed the points. Town face Leyton Orient at home next week.
There was also a League One debut for Daniel Oyegoke for MK Dons as he featured for the final 30 minutes in their 1-0 defeat away at Cambridge United. Harvey Knibbs grabbed the game's only goal on 17 minutes which sealed all three points for United against a Dons side who, despite having a lot of the ball, were unable to break their opponents down. The side will look to bounce back next week when they host Sheffield Wednesday at Stadium MK.
