Most Fulham supporters will have been glad to get the 2014/15 campaign over with after flirting with relegation for the majority of the season. The side struggled to hit any sort of form, ended their hopes of an immediate return to the Premier League.

Last summer Felix Magath spent heavily in the transfer market to bring in Ross McCormack from Leeds United for a reported £11m. He also signed Matt Smith from the same club on transfer deadline day.

They opened the season with a 2-1 defeat at Ipswich Town and lost seven out of their first eight league games. On September 18 it was announced Magath had left the club with Kit Symons named as caretaker Manager.

Results under Symons improved, and Fulham climbed up the table to 13th after a 4-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on 20 December. Any thought of a Play-Off push was dashed with only two wins in the next 15 league and cup games.

Part of the problem was their dreadful away record, with only five wins on the road all season. Their home form wasn’t much better, with heavy defeats at home to Brentford [1-4], AFC Bournemouth [1-5] and Watford [0-5].

McCormack repaid some of that huge transfer fee with 17 league goals, and Hugo Rodallega scored ten also. Symons will have to decide whether to keep faith with last season’s policy of a youthful side and some older heads, or bring in some more experienced players over the summer.
