Brentford B’s Charlie Farr was left delighted after helping the young Bees to another three points in the Premier League Cup against his former club Aston Villa on Wednesday evening.

The talented full back, who threatened a great deal going forwards as well as defended resolutely, was part of the side that took a 3-1 win away from Bodymoor Heath with two goals from Alex Gilbert and one from Kyreece Lisbie.

Reflecting on the win, he explained: “I think it was a tough game and at times we had to battle. We had to be quite deep in our shape at times, I thought we defended really well and hit them on the counter. We were clinical and it was a really good night for the boys.

“We limited them to shots from distance, we’ve been working on our shape a lot in training. We were really resolute and credit to the back three who were excellent. We work together as a unit really well, particularly Edon (Pruti) talking and leading the group."

The side had a 2-0 lead going into the final stages of the match but Villa pulled one back through Tommi O’Reilly. Charlie felt the side reacted well to conceding and managed the final minutes well as Lisbie grabbed another to restore the two-goal cushion.

“When it went to 2-1 with 10 minutes left it’s about staying strong,” said Charlie. “When Kyreece went down the end and put the ball in all the boys were buzzing and you then feel you’ve seen it out to get the win."

Assessing the side’s performances in this competition, as they now sit top in Group D, Charlie says the group will remain focused ahead of their next match in the competition next month.

He continued: “We’re a really tight group, everyone gets on really well and you can see that on the pitch. We want to do well in this competition and if we keep this team bond and the performances on the pitch then I think we can go far. We take each game as it comes, if we put on more performances like tonight as we did at Blackburn then there is no reason why we can’t go far. I know first-hand how good some of these Villa players are and to come here and beat them 3-1 is real credit to the boys. It’s a really good test.”
