Brentford B’s Charlie Farr felt the young Bees were well worth their win over Jong AZ on Saturday as they claimed a 2-1 victory in Holland.

An AZ own goal had Neil MacFarlane’s side in front in the second half before they then struck on 85 minutes to level things. The B Team then scored three minutes later as Farr grabbed the all-important goal with an impressive left footed finish to round off the tour.

Speaking after the win, the right back said: “It feels good to get a last minute winner. I think the boys defended really well in the game and there were some spells where we played some really nice football and, when we needed to, we got into our shape and defended really well.

“They had good players on their side and it was tricky to keep them quiet. They came down my side, crossed and scored late on so we were thinking that we needed to push on and get another goal. I wanted to help that out and luckily I got the goal so I’m really pleased. Tony (Yogane) came on as a sub and was bright. He found me with a good pass and the defender probably thought I would take it on my right but I cut in on my left and thankfully scored so I’m really pleased.”

The win over AZ followed a 1-1 draw with Jong PSV earlier in the week. Having taken positive results away from the tour, Charlie says the side can go back to Jersey Road with confidence as the team now look towards two more Premier League Cup games before Christmas.

“I think against PSV we knew we could play better, and I think in the first half we were okay but not good enough in the second half,” said the young defender. “We showed what we can do against a good AZ side so it’s pleasing for the boys.

“They (PSV and AZ) do a lot of rotation. For me as a right back you can get dragged out of position, they’re very technical so you have to stay in your shape well. As a back four we defended well today so there are a lot of things we can take from it to go back to Jersey Road.

“To get a last-minute winner against a great opposition is perfect for the boys. We want to take that confidence into the Premier League Cup and into the Christmas break.”
