Head of medical Neil Greig has left Brentford to become Chelsea Women’s new head of performance support.

One of the club’s longest-serving members of staff, Greig joined the Bees in June 2010 and has developed and led the club’s medical services during the most successful period in its history.

A graduate of University College London in Sports and Exercise Medicine, Greig worked at Watford for nearly four and a half years before moving to west London.

He leaves Brentford having played a part in promotions from both League One and the Championship, followed by three successful seasons in the Premier League.

A regular marathon runner, Greig has raised over £100,000 for various charities during his time with Brentford, including vital funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young, in memory of former technical director Robert Rowan who died suddenly in November 2018 after suffering a fatal cardiomyopathy episode.

“My 14 years with Brentford have been the most rewarding and enjoyable of my career,” said Greig.

“When I walked through the door it was evident that there was a huge project ahead, however there was a clear vision and strategy in place to achieve that and it’s been an incredible journey.

“I’d like to place on record my thanks to the outstanding group of medical and performance staff that I’ve worked alongside during my time at the club along with many others, of whom there are too many to mention them all.

“I’d also like to thank Phil Giles and Thomas Frank for all the support they’ve shown me, particularly in the past few weeks as I reached this tough decision.

“I’m excited as to what the next chapter of my career will hold but will always look out for Brentford’s results and wish the club ongoing success.”

Brentford director of football Phil Giles said: “On behalf of everyone at Brentford I’d like to thank Neil for his outstanding contribution to the club. He has played a significant part in getting us to the Premier League and can be proud of his achievements.

“For example, Neil played a leading role in helping us to navigate through the Covid pandemic, ensuring that our player availability was very high, which in turn contributed to promotion in May 2021.

“He has been a trusted leader of the medical department who has given up many weekends and evenings to carry out medicals for new signings and help support the team.

“The role to which he is moving at Chelsea Women is a perfect fit for the next stage of Neil’s career, and we wish him well.”
