Brentford FC announced today that Monique Choudhuri will be stepping down from the board of directors on June 30 2023.

Monique has served on the board since 2017, during which time she has made a significant and important contribution to the club’s efforts in promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).

As a board member, Monique has played a vital role in ensuring that the club reflects the diverse community it serves, both on and off the field.

She has overseen and led the implementation of several initiatives aimed at improving our diversity and equity. These initiatives include the development of the Bee Together brand, an improved focus on inclusive hiring and the establishment of the club's EDI & wellbeing sub-committee.

She has managed a number of relationships with EDI partners and has ensured that the club’s voice is heard at various industry events and forums.

Monique was also instrumental in the appointment of Preeti Shetty and Deji Davies onto the board, the first South Asian female and only Black British male respectively serving on the board of a Premier League club.

As a result of these efforts, Brentford FC has recently achieved the Premier League's Equality Diversity and Inclusion standard (preliminary level), a comprehensive league-wide accreditation framework designed to support clubs in their efforts to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion.

"I am immensely proud of the work we have accomplished during my time on the board," said Monique.

"It has been a privilege to serve the club and I am grateful for the opportunity to have contributed to the club's success over the last six years, in particular, helping to ensure that Brentford is a club that is open to all and takes inclusion seriously.

"It has been a wonderful journey and now is the right time for me to step down. I look forward to continuing to support the club in any way I can and will remain a proud fan."

Cliff Crown, the chair of Brentford FC, said: "Monique's impact on the club's culture and ethos has been immense. She has helped to make us a better, more progressive club.

“She has made a significant impact on the board during her time with Brentford. Her leadership, presence and input have been invaluable. We are grateful for her advice, counsel and contributions and know that she will continue to make a difference to the organisations she will work with in the future.

Jon Varney, chief executive of Brentford FC, added: "Whilst Monique has been influential in helping us achieve the Premier League's Equality Diversity and Inclusion standard, her work has also been crucial in ensuring that we are a club that values and celebrates diversity in all its forms.

"She has helped us to build our reputation for being a club that puts inclusion at the heart of everything we do. We are confident that Monique will continue to make a tremendous and meaningful contribution in football and in the wider sports industry beyond Brentford FC."

The board, staff and players of Brentford FC thank her and are grateful for everything she has done for the club and wish her all the best in the months and years ahead.
