Last week, about 20 people attended Brentford’s women and girls fans' forum at Gtech Community Stadium.
This forum meets at least twice a year to focus on the experiences of women and girls at the club.
The group discussed some of the highlights for women and girls at the club last season. These included feeling welcomed at the Gtech, the Lionesses friendly against the Australia women’s team in February, Lydia Bedford being appointed as the head coach for the academy and the first-ever women’s fixture at the Gtech for Brentford women's first team when they took on Watford Ladies Development in October 2022.
Areas for improvement for the upcoming season were also identified by the group, particularly around how we can ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience for women and families travelling to away games and continuing to increase the promotion and support for the women’s teams.
Attendees also had the opportunity to see the latest release in the Thousands of Stories series. The Team tells the story of Lauren Moors who has been inspired by her young daughter Zoe Moors to play football in Brentford FC Community Sports Trust’s weekly women recreational football sessions.
Brentford’s fan and community relations director Sally Stephens said: “The women and girls fans' forum gives us the opportunity to hear directly from our supporters - both male and female - about the experiences of women and girls at the club.
“It’s also a great chance for us to share some of the work that the club is doing in this area, not only on matchdays but also our plans for the Brentford women’s teams and what we are doing to encourage more women to come and join us working at the club.
"We are really grateful for the time and energy that the group puts into working with us to improve the experience of women and girls at Brentford.”
