Daniel Bentley revealed there were a few home truths expressed in the away dressing room at Carrow Road this afternoon after Brentford were beaten 5-0 by Norwich City in the Sky Bet Championship. The Bees were put to the sword by The Canaries to make it four straight defeats in the league following a John Egan own-goal and strikes for Graham Dorrans, Robbie Brady, Nelson Oliveira, and Alex Pritchard.

Speaking to Bees Player after the match, Daniel said: “We had a discussion and there have been some home truths told from players and staff alike. We were well off it tonight and I think I can speak for myself and the boys that I am embarrassed with that result. We weren’t good enough all over the pitch and that is something that, as a group, we can’t ever allow to happen again. It was totally unacceptable. If there is stuff that is underlying then there comes a time when it needs to be said. After that tonight it was probably overdue. There’s only so long you can go without saying things that need to be said. It’s not a matter of people falling out, it’s about people sharing their opinion, and doing what they can to move forward. There’s no doubt we will continue to work hard on the training ground and work hard to try and put it right.”

This afternoon’s result means The Bees have now conceded ten goals in three matches. With three penalties and two own-goals among that figure Daniel said The Bees have to tighten up at the back and stop gifting silly goals to the opposition.

“We gave them too much time,” said Daniel. “I’m sure some of them felt it was their birthday today because a lot of them were gifts. That is uncharacteristic for us but we need to make sure those goals and individual errors don’t become characteristic for us. That is not what we want to be known for. We want to be resilient at the back and ruthless. We seem to have lost that side of our identity at the moment. We need to get back to that now. That comes with a discussion like we had and with hard work on the training ground.”

Dean Smith's Bees have now lost four on the bounce, dropping to 18th in the table ahead of next weekend’s match against Burton Albion. Daniel said it is up to the everyone, players and management, to make sure that things are turned around quickly.

“Working hard is a basic for any player as far as I am concerned,” said Daniel. “If anyone isn’t working hard they will be pulled up on it. If someone isn’t working hard then they aren’t doing their job. We need to get back to doing the basics right and being horrible to play against like we were at the start of the season. We are rolling over too easily at the moment. It’s the fourth game in a row now where we haven’t got the result we wanted. There’s only so much of that you can tolerate. It comes from everybody but at the end of the day we are the ones who go out on the pitch. There is only so much that Dean and Richard can say. It has to come from our desire and passion to work hard.”
