Brentford’s Finland international defender Daniel O’Shaughnessy has joined Danish champions FC Midtjylland on loan for the rest of the season. The 21-year-old completed the move today and it is finalised subject to international clearance. Daniel will remain with FCM, where Brentford FC Owner Matthew Benham has the majority shareholding, for the rest of the season.

FCM are looking to retain the Danish Superliga title they won last year and are third in the table with the season in a winter break. They are four points off the top. FCM will also play Manchester United in the Europa League last 32 next month.

The left-sided defender joined Brentford on a two year contract in 2014 after a successful trial. He had spent the previous three years with FC Metz having begun his career with HJK Helsinki. Daniel – who was born in Finland but holds dual nationality with the Republic of Ireland – made his international debut earlier this year and has two caps to go with 12 at Under-21 level.

Daniel has been an unused substitute for Brentford on two occasions during his 18 months with the Club and has been a regular at Development Squad level. He played 23 games in the Under-21 Professional Development League last season and scored once. He has made a further 13 appearances this term, scoring one goal.
