Ezri Konsa signed for Brentford FC on Tuesday 12 June from Charlton Athletic. The 20-year-old then sat down to talk about his new home and his future with The Bees.

"I'm really delighted to be at such a great club like Brentford Football Club," said Ezri, speaking at Griffin Park having just put pen to paper on a three-year contract. "It was a great feeling for me to sign for Brentford, so I'm really happy."

The defender joined The Addicks at an early age and had some words for the club that helped him in the early stages of his career.

"Of course, I was there for nine years," he said. "I'd like to thank all the coaches, staff and players there that helped me through the nine years. Obviously it was hard for me to leave, I grew up at Charlton. At the end of the day, it's my career and I think Brentford's a really good club for me to come to."

Last season he was an ever-present in the Athletic team that reached the League One Play-Offs, losing 2-0 to Shrewsbury Town across the two-legged Semi-Final. Ezri spoke to us about how that affected him.

"It was a great experience," he said. "It was my first ever Play-Offs so it was tough to take. Going to Shrewsbury and them beating us at home was tough, but it was a great experience for me."

When asked why he chose Brentford, when there was the potential for a Premier League move on the cards, Ezri said: "I think the Club's ambitions and where they are trying to go really attracted me here. Obviously last season they were six points off the Play-Offs, next season I think we can really push for the Play-Offs, or even automatic promotion."

Ezri has just come back from Toulon, where he was part of the England Under-21 squad that beat Mexico 2-1 in the Final to clinch a three-peat in his first taste of tournament football at that level.

"I've been really pleased," he said. "Its a proud moment for me and my family for me to represent my country. For me, to go out there and make my debut for England U21s was a great feeling."

Competition in Dean Smith's squad is always high but Ezri is confident he can play a big part in the 2018/19 campaign. He outlined his objectives for the coming year, and looked at the strength of the current squad.

"To try and get promotion, develop as a footballer here, meet some new players and enjoy myself.

"It's a positive to have competition with those old heads and the young lads. I could really learn something from them. Playing in the Championship, having a lot of experience playing at a high level. I think I'm going to learn a lot here."
