Brentford's Under-16s gave Barcelona a huge scare in their prestige friendly tonight at the club's La Masia Training Complex.

The Bees took the lead against the Catalan giants after 11 minutes as Danny Parish swept home from Luke Dunn's deep cross.

Barcelona equalised five minutes later and took the lead just before half-time but they had to withstand a late onslaught from The Bees to claim victory.

Julius Fenn-Evans was inches away from turning home Joshua Bohui's cross before home goalkeeper Adria made an excellent save to deny George Harmes in the dying stages.

The majority of Brentford's squad had been involved in a friendly win over Inter Milan last season and Milk Cup wins over Southampton and Rangers in the summer but Barcelona took control of the game in the opening stages.

Playing with three at the back and three central midfielders Barcelona were able to move the ball around the slick 3G pitch at will in the opening stages.

The Bees had to do a lot of work out of possession but restricted the hosts to half chances as Monchu shot over from the edge of the box before Cameron Greaves made a good save from the midfielder's free-kick.

Brentford hadn't seen much of the ball in the opening ten minutes but when they did enjoy a spell of possession they took the lead.

Dunn floated a ball over the defence from the right-hand side and Parish ran in behind to sweep home from close range.

Having taken the lead the confidence in the Brentford side grew and they started to enjoy more of a share of possession.

Barcelona were still looking dangerous going forward with the number 10, Riky, who had the look in terms of stature and skill of the current number 10 at the Nou Camp, popping up all over the pitch creating angles and space to play the ball.

Monchu had another shot saved by Greaves before the host equalised on the quarter hour as Tandavi's near post cross was flicked home by Porquemos.

Xavi saw his chipped shot drift the wrong side of the post, Riky struck the bar after a fine jinking run and Monchu shot over as Barcelona took control of the first-half.

They got the second goal that their dominance probably deserved  four minutes from the break as Greaves made a fantastic save to deny Edgar but the winger reacted quickest to slam the rebound home.

Having been out of possession for large parts of the first-half Brentford could have been forgiven for tiring in the second-half but they came out strongly in the second period.

Aside from an Edgar shot that was easy for Greaves to block Brentford enjoyed the better start to the second-half.

Giovanni McGregor shot over from distance and Nikola Tavares headed wide from a deep Parish corner.

Parish saw a shot well saved by Adria as Brentford went toe-to-toe with the Catalan giants in the closing stages.

With the pace and direct running of Bohui, Juan Pablo Velasco and Iancarlo Poveda Barcelona's defence was stretched almost to breaking point.

Fenn-Evans was centimeters away from connecting with Bohui's low cross, Bohui put a free-kick over from the edge of the box and Parish was crowded out as he looked to shoot from the edge of the box.

Barcelona could have made the games safe but Videma smashed a shot against the bar from close range and they were nearly made to pay by Brentford in the dying seconds.

Harmes broke through the defence, after a fantastic run by Bohui, but Adria was out smartly to smother the ball behind for a corner.

Ultimately Barcelona hung on for the win but they were pushed close by a young Brentford side who can take a huge amount of confidence from tonight's encounter.
