Michael Olakigbe says he feels joining the B Team will give him a fantastic opportunity to fulfil his potential and he's excited to continue his development under Neil MacFarlane and his staff.
The 18-year-old winger came through the ranks with Fulham and he has now joined the young Bees on a four-year deal.
“I’ve heard about the B Team and how it’s different to other clubs," said the youngster shortly after agreeing to join The Bees. "I think that the B Team is a good way to prepare for men’s football so when I heard about the idea about being so close to the First Team, it felt like a great idea to join.
“I like the plan and the setup of the Club, the way they push young players on into the First Team. I believe that the plan that they have for me is the best one so it feels like a good option to come here.
“I’ve been with Fulham for four years and they got me from QPR. I played Under-15s and Under-16s and then I did my two-year scholarship to get to where I am now. They have helped me with my development and now I’m looking forward to kicking on here. I thank them for everything that they’ve done for me."
The young winger had a fruitful 2021/22 campaign which culminated in lifting a trophy with England's Under-18s. He featured regularly for the Under-18s side at Fulham as they finished sixth in the Under-18 Premier League South as they claimed 46 points from their 26 matches.
“I scored 12 goals and got three assists and I also scored a couple with England as well so I can’t complain," explained the youngster. "We went to Croatia and won the Four Nations tournament, playing against Austria, Wales and Croatia which was tough. We put in some good performances and to win a tournament with England is such an achievement and it’s something you will always remember. It makes me proud."
So, what can we expect to see from the young player this season with the young Bees? Michael says he will look to get creating from wide areas for his teammates as well help himself to some goals.
He continued: “I think I’m a flashy winger that likes to take players on one-vs-one. I like to score goals and create for the team. I’m a hard-working player and I’m hungry to succeed.
“I want to come in and get to know the boys, kick on and try to fulfil my potential. I want to kick on to the First Team which is the main goal. I spoke with Neil, and I know he has good plans, he’s a very good guy who knows what he’s talking about. Learning under him is going to benefit me so much. He will improve me as a player and as a person as well."
