Thomas Frank delivered a positive squad update ahead of Brentford’s Premier League game against Liverpool.

The Bees have no fresh injury concerns following a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out and will be boosted by the return of midfielder Frank Onyeka and forward Yoane Wissa.

Onyeka was close to bringing an African Cup of Nations winner's medal back to west London with the midfielder's Nigeria falling at the final hurdle against hosts Ivory Coast.

Onyeka started all seven of Nigeria's games – accumulating a total of 608 minutes – and made more tackles (14) and interceptions (11) than any player at the tournament.

Yoane Wissa played in all seven of DR Congo’s games, starting in each of them except the third-place play-off defeat to South Africa, where he came on in the 68th minute.

Of Wissa's five on-target shots two were converted: the first an equaliser in DR Congo's opening game (a 1-1 draw with Zambia) and the other from the penalty spot to make it 2-1 in their 3-1 quarter-final victory over Guinea.

“They’ve been important and good for us, so it’s good to have them in training,” said Frank.

“They’ve come back with energy having had, in many, many ways, fantastic experiences.

“Unfortunately, they finished second and fourth rather than first and third, but we are very proud of them and what they achieved.”

High-flying Liverpool have won four of their last five Premier League games, but Frank insisted that he and his players believe that they can cause an upset in Saturday's early kick-off, which will be broadcast live on TNT Sports.

“We are facing the top-of-the-league team; a team in form in many ways. They have top players and a top manager [Jürgen Klopp],” he said.

“I think Liverpool are the best offensive team in the league, because they are very difficult to close down when they are on it.

“They play in behind, they play crosses, they combine, they do one-v-ones, they are good on set-pieces. They have created the most xG, which is completely aligned to how they play offensively.

“It’s going to be a huge challenge, but we are up for it, and we believe in ourselves. We believe that we can get a result.”
