Yoane Wissa has signed a new three-year contract at Brentford, with the option of a further year, extending his stay in west London until at least the summer of 2026.

Only Ivan Toney has scored more Premier League goals for Brentford than Wissa since his arrival from FC Lorient in August 2021.

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank said: “I’m very pleased that Wissa has signed a new contract; he’s been a great addition to the club since he arrived.

"He’s a very good player who has proved he can score goals in the Premier League. It’s a big thing to have a player like him in the squad. He is a constant goal threat, is good in behind, and can link up as well. He can play easily both as a winger and striker.

"He is also fantastic for the culture of the group - he brings energy and a smile every single day which drives the group forward a lot. He is a pleasure to work with.”

The 26-year-old enjoyed a fruitful start to life at Brentford, scoring five goals in his first six appearances for Frank’s side.

He netted on his full debut against Forest Green Rovers in a Carabao Cup second-round tie before scoring a brace, including an overhead kick which was voted the Goal of the Competition, during the 7-0 win over Oldham Athletic in the following round.

Wissa discusses his stunning strike against Oldham, his other important goals since signing for the Bees, and his sharp instincts in front of goal in The Long Read.

However, it was his first two Premier League goals which saw him truly announce his arrival. The 26-year-old dinked home an 82nd-minute equaliser in the 3-3 draw against Liverpool at the Gtech Community Stadium, before sparking wild scenes of celebration following his stoppage-time winner away at West Ham United eight days later.

The DR Congo international added further Premier League strikes against Aston Villa, Leicester City, Chelsea, Southampton and Everton to end Brentford’s maiden season back in the top flight as the club’s second-top scorer with seven goals.

This term, Wissa has registered five Premier League goals from 13 starts. He opened his season account with an 88th-minute equaliser away at Crystal Palace in August, adding the fifth in the win over Leeds United the following weekend.

His lobbed finish against Nottingham Forest in November’s 2-2 draw was his 10th Premier League goal. He then netted at home to Liverpool for the second year in succession, helping the Bees to a 3-1 win, before his most recent Premier League goal wrapped up a 2-0 win over Southampton in March.

In total, Wissa has scored 15 goals in 70 Brentford appearances, 12 of which have come in the Premier League.

At international level, Wissa has played eight times for DR Congo while at Brentford. He scored in the first leg of the Leopards' World Cup Play-Off defeat to Morocco, taking his tally to two goals in 10 caps.
