Ivan Toney has joined Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli on a permanent transfer, subject to international clearance.

The striker departs Brentford having scored 72 goals in 141 appearances. He played a key role in the Bees’ promotion to the Premier League in 2020/21 and the three top-flight seasons that followed.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with Ivan over the last four years,” said head coach Thomas Frank.

“He has averaged more than one goal every two games, which is an unbelievable number.

“On the pitch, he has been a fantastic goalscorer, link-up player and leader. He has pushed the team, the squad and himself.”

Frank added: “It’s a wonderful journey that we have been on together. Ivan helped the club and the team, and the club and the team have helped Ivan.

“I’m happy he has an opportunity to try something new in his life and career. We thank him for so many magic moments and wish him all the best for his next chapter. Ivan leaves as a Brentford legend.”

After 49 goals and 15 assists across two seasons with Peterborough United, Toney signed for Brentford in August 2020.

He struck 10 times in as many league games to mark his arrival and ended the regular season by setting a new record for most goals scored in a Championship season with 31, as well as providing 10 assists.

He notched twice in the play-offs, with the second goal a trademark penalty setting Brentford on their way to promotion with a 2-0 win over Swansea City at Wembley Stadium.

Toney took to the Premier League like a duck to water, scoring 32 goals and providing nine assists during his first two seasons in the division.

He earned an England call-up in March 2023 and became only the third Brentford player in the club’s history to feature for the Three Lions when he made his debut against Ukraine during Euro 2024 qualifying.

Toney’s 2022/23 campaign was cut short after he was handed an eight-month ban, meaning it was not until January 2024 that he was available for selection once again.

He scored on his return to action, with a free-kick against Nottingham Forest, and impressed Gareth Southgate sufficiently - no doubt, in part, due to his penalty prowess - to be included in the England squad for Euro 2024.

The 28-year-old assisted Harry Kane’s winning goal against Slovakia in the round of 16 and was on target during the Three Lions’ penalty shootout success over Switzerland in the quarter-final.
