Mads Bech has joined Danish Superliga side Midtjylland on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance.
The defender will return to Denmark this summer, six years after leaving to sign for the Bees from AC Horsens in 2017. Midtjylland finished seventh in the Danish top flight last term.
“I’m very happy that Mads got his move to FC Midtjylland, he deserves it - he's another very good Brentford story," said Brentford head coach Thomas Frank.
“He came here in the summer of 2017 and he played a lot of games in the Championship for us. He had the second most appearances of our centre-backs during the 2019/20 campaign, which was very impressive and a big part of us getting promoted.
“He’s a success story from the B team; coming and playing there, getting promoted to the first team, getting us promoted, and then coming on with Marcus Forss and Mads Bidstrup in our first Premier League game - I think that's a fantastic story.
“Unfortunately, things haven't worked out the way Mads may have hoped. I’m sure he would have liked to have played more games for us recently, but this is a fantastic opportunity for him to go back to Denmark and play more minutes.”
Bech has been with the Bees since 2017 and, after initially signing for Brentford B, he quickly progressed to the first-team group.
He went on to play 72 times for Brentford, scoring four goals.
He was part of the squad that won promotion to the Premier League in the 2020/21 season, playing 39 games in all competitions.
He started 32 Sky Bet Championship games that term, scoring twice, as Brentford finished third and won the play-off final.
The Danish youth international picked up an injury at the start of the Bees' first Premier League season but still made 15 appearances during the 2021/22 campaign, with 11 coming in the top flight.
He appeared in four Premier League matches last term, before spending the first half of the season with Ligue 1 side OGC Nice and the second half with Eredivisie outfit Groningen.
