Brentford midfielder Paris Maghoma has signed a new three-year contact.

The 23-year-old impressed on loan at League One side Bolton Wanderers last season, playing 50 games in all competitions. He scored nine goals and provided seven assists in a campaign that saw him named the Trotters’ Young Player of the Year, and has now committed to the Bees until the summer of 2027.

“I’m very happy that Paris has signed a new contract,” said head coach Thomas Frank.

“He has been with the club for quite a while, and I’ve always liked him as a player. He has the technical ability and all the key attributes that you need in the modern game.

“His ability to turn forward, drive forward, pass forward and get out of tricky situations is fantastic; now it’s on him and us to push forward.

“He’s developed and matured as a player and a person over these last years with some great loan opportunities in the Football League, so it’s looking promising for him.”

Maghoma moved across the capital in 2020, leaving Tottenham Hotspur to join Brentford for an undisclosed fee.

He was named on the bench for the west Londoners’ Carabao Cup first-round penalty shootout win over Wycombe Wanderers in September 2020 and on five further occasions in 2021/22, when he was part of the B-team squad that lifted the London Senior Cup.

That summer - having already signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract - he was promoted to the Bees’ first team.

He was then sent out on loan to League Two side AFC Wimbledon, for whom he made 24 appearances, before being recalled by Brentford due to injury in the December.

One month later he left, again temporarily, this time for MK Dons in the division above and made a further 20 outings.

Maghoma spent the 2023/24 campaign with Bolton and thrived in a more advanced role under Ian Evatt, missing out on capping a superb personal campaign with promotion back to the Championship after the Trotters lost 2-0 to Oxford United in the League One play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
