Brentford head coach Thomas Frank delivered a mixed injury update before the Bees’ Premier League game against Bournemouth on Saturday (5.30pm kick-off GMT, live on Sky Sports).
Defenders Sepp van den Berg and Michael Kayode have recently been sidelined due to knee injuries, while Frank revealed after the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa that Carvalho had undergone surgery having dislocated his shoulder.
“Sepp trained the whole week, so there’s a good chance he will be involved,” said Frank.
“[Kayode] is just a little bit after Sepp, so he is unlikely to be involved. I expect him to be available for Newcastle.
“[Carvalho] is a longer one. A quick and good recovery could keep the return to play time down, so he could be back just before the end of the season, but it would need to be a top return to play time.”
Frank added: “It’s his right shoulder. The surgery was good, and the rehab is on track, but it’s only been a week.”
Making his first appearance since October 2023, Aaron Hickey scored the first goal in Brentford Under-21s' 2-0 win over Birmingham City Under-21s last month, but Saturday’s game will come too soon for the full-back.
Rico Henry is in full training but will not feature at Vitality Stadium. Gustavo Nunes, Igor Thiago and Josh Dasilva are also unavailable.
