The 2018/19 Sky Bet Championship season ended on Sunday and the Brentford players have now finished for the season. Ahead of the summer break, Brentford Head Coach Thomas Frank met with the group to individually review the season and plan for the 2019/20 campaign. Decisions about the future of the squad were taken and five First Team players will be leaving the Club.

Yoann Barbet, Jack Bonham, Lewis Macleod and Josh McEachran are all out of contract as of 30 June and each is expected to depart when their deals expire at the end of next month. Moses Odubajo will also be leaving. The defender signed a one-year contract last summer with an option for the Club to extend it until the summer of 2020. Brentford will not be taking up that option and Moses will leave.

Jack spent the last season on loan at Bristol Rovers. He played 40 games for the South West side in League One and 46 in all competitions having spent 2017/18 on loan at Carlisle United, making 42 League Two appearances during that spell, playing 49 games in all competitions. Jack joined The Bees in the summer of 2013 and leaves having played seven games.

Yoann joined Brentford from Chamois Niortais in the summer of 2015 and has been a regular member of the matchday squad for the past four years. He played 118 games for The Bees in all competitions and scored seven goals. Yoann made 107 of his Brentford appearances – and scored six of his goals – in the Championship. His final Brentford goal came in the last minute of the home game against Reading this season to secure a 2-2 draw with ten men.

Lewis’ time at Brentford has been affected by injury. He joined The Bees at the end of 2014 from Glasgow Rangers but suffered serious hamstring and knee injuries during his four-and-a-half years in West London. He leaves having played 43 games in all competitions, scoring four goals. Three of those four goals came this season, including a memorable last-minute equaliser away to West Bromwich Albion.

Josh joined The Bees from Chelsea in the summer of 2015, but his Brentford career was affected by two separate foot injuries in his first season. He played 101 games over four years, 90 of them in the Championship. His one Brentford goal, his first in club football, came from a direct free kick against Birmingham City in November.

Moses spent the 2014/15 season with Brentford, playing 49 games and scoring three goals. He moved to Hull City but suffered serious knee injuries and returned to Brentford before the start of the current season. He played 35 games this season, 30 of them in the Championship.

Josh Clarke has returned to the Club after a loan spell at Burton Albion while Justin Shaibu is also back after spending the season with Boreham Wood in the Vanarama National League. Josh played six League One games for Burton while Justin scored nine goals in 40 National League games. Justin played 46 games in all competitions for Boreham Wood and scored 13 goals.

Thomas Frank said: “It is always sad when players leave at the end of a season. The group has worked exceptionally hard over the past ten-and-a-half months and everyone has contributed to us achieving a fifth consecutive top half finish in the Championship. I would like to thank each of them for their efforts.

“Jack had a very good season at Bristol Rovers, so much so that he was nominated for the Player of the Year award. He is at the stage of his career when he needs to be a first-choice goalkeeper. He will not have that opportunity here next season, but he will always be welcome at Griffin Park and I am sure he will be playing in the league somewhere next season.

“Yoann, Moses, Josh and Lewis have been valuable members of the group this season. The competition for places in midfield is fierce and Lewis and Josh have not had the opportunities they would have wanted in matches. But they have been very professional in their work, have helped the group preparing for games and have made a contribution on the pitch when needed.

“Yoann and Moses have played a lot of games for us this year and have made a valuable contribution. Their departure will give opportunities to others that we have in the squad, in the B Team and players that we hope to bring in. I have enjoyed working with both of them and they have never let us down. I wish all the players leaving us the very best for the rest of their careers.”
