Brentford head coach Thomas Frank is well aware of Chelsea's quality ahead of the Bees' visit to Stamford Bridge, but 'hopes and believes' that his side can get a good result.

Despite currently sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table, Frank has been impressed with the Blues' performances since Frank Lampard was appointed as the club's interim manager.

And the Bees boss insisted that Lampard's side are favourites for Wednesday's clash, but sees no reason why the Bees can't get a result - just like they emphatically did with a 4-1 win in SW6 last season.

“I think we all know that Chelsea have been struggling a little bit this season, but they have some very good players," the Bees head coach said in his pre-match press conference.

“Under Frank [Lampard], I know they haven’t won in the four games he’s been in charge, but they are playing with big energy and more intensity; on the eye and also on the numbers.

“They played a very good game, for example, against Real Madrid at home, who I think won a tiny cup, the Champions League, last year?!

“They have top players who they bought for around £600 million over the last two transfer windows, and they haven't forgotten how to play football - sometimes it just takes one moment or a good week working with them.

“At Stamford Bridge, they are clear favourites, but we hope and believe we can do something.”

Brentford are looking for their first win in six games when they travel across west London to face Chelsea on Wednesday.

Their last victory came at Southampton over a month ago but, when asked about the Bees' ending their winless run, Frank insisted that performances over the last few weeks have given him enough encouragement that a win is just around the corner.

Frank said: “For me, the most difficult part of being a head coach is that you, the players and everyone involved in the football club work so hard the whole week to get that win on a Saturday and, on top of that, when you then put in a top performance - like I think we did against Aston Villa - and you don't get the points you deserve, that's hard to accept on the emotional side of the brain.

"The logical side of things is that we look at the performances, we analyse them, and we see that we're doing a lot of things right, which we have done over the last six games.”

He added: “Looking at things like the underlying metrics, they’ve actually shown that we're doing very well over the last six games. Looking at it with my analytic eyes and football brain, there are still a lot of things to improve and do better, always.

“Even against Villa, which was close to a top performance, even when we beat Manchester United, there’s still things we want to do better. But, all of that added together, we are in a good place.

“Do we want to win? Badly. Do we hope it happens tomorrow? Yes. Will it be difficult tomorrow? Yes.

“But, with a calm, cool approach, then we can keep developing, exactly like we've done over the last five years.”
