Flemming Pedersen was left extremely proud of his young team after they came from behind to draw 1-1 with Valencia Under-19s with only 10 men for a fifth of the match.
"I have to be please with the draw because we played 10 vs 11 for the last 18 minutes," said Flemming, speaking after the final whistle at Valencia CF's training centre. "We were one-nil down. I said to the boys, there is a huge difference in losing one-nil and drawing one-one in such an extremely competitive game like today."
A late goal in the first half saw The Bees trailing at half time, then Reece Cole was sent off after being shown a second yellow card. Despite the disadvantage, the B team rallied and Danny Parish scored with five minutes left to give Brentford a much deserved draw.
"We could see that Valencia were not used to playing against such high pressure so we put a lot of effort into the start of the game," said Flemming. "It was very good pressure, especially from Danny Parish today. We have come very far in terms of tactical positioning in possession but also in hoigh pressing and zonal defending, defending spaces. So for a coach, for me and for the rest of the staff here, we are very proud of the boys."
"It has been very successful [tour in Spain], two competitive games against two very good teams with technical skills that we are not used to when we play at home. Also our behaviour when we stay calm has improved, especially today when we can say the referee was not on our side. I said to the boys 'you have to deal with it' because that's a big part of playing in Europe and in the end we got a draw."
