Brentford have teamed up with Fantasy Football Scout to bring you hints, tips and advice during the 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season.
Scout will be using their expertise to provide info, advice and Gameweek tips which may prove useful in ensuring you sit top of your mini-leagues.
Best of 2023/24
Five goals and two assists ensured Yoane Wissa’s (£6.0m) final seven matches of the 2023/24 season ended in style. With a pre-season penalty at Wimbledon, this momentum appears to have continued as we head into the new campaign.
Alongside a dozen league goals, only four FPL forwards created more big chances for team-mates than the DR Congo international (seven). Wissa’s double-digit hauls against Luton, Fulham and Bournemouth helped raise his FPL points tally to 131 for the season.
Elsewhere, it was an incredible breakthrough season for Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (£10.5m), beginning as a Manchester City prospect but ending it as FPL’s top scorer with 244 points. A hat-trick at home to Manchester United, netting four times versus Everton, and accumulating 35 attacking returns. Not bad for someone who didn’t start a match until Gameweek 7!
Ollie Watkins (£9.0m) used this head start to reach 37 attacking returns, thanks to 19 goals and 18 assists, whilst Phil Foden (£9.5m) finished in-between the duo on 230 points. It meant he was the best asset from champions City, ahead of Erling Haaland (£15.0m). In fairness, the Norwegian was limited to 29 starts and still found time to deliver 27 goals.
In defence, the three highest totals all belonged to Arsenal. Their impressive 18 clean sheets included shut-outs in both meetings against Haaland and Foden’s lot.
Popular picks for 2024/25
It’s no surprise to see Watkins, Palmer and Haaland currently among the four most-selected individuals given their returns in the previous campaign. With one week to go until it all kicks off, each is in at least 40% of registered FPL teams.
But ahead of them all is 55.3%-owned Alexander Isak (£8.5m). His 21 strikes in 30 appearances came once every 108 minutes - a rate only bettered by Haaland. Beginning at home to newly-promoted Southampton certainly boosts his appeal and many are opting for a double-up that features Newcastle team-mate Anthony Gordon (£7.5m).
Those at FPL Towers have won praise for the way they’ve priced players this time. By raising the values of many, it’s suddenly a lot tougher to form a template that everybody simply copies. There are now so many options out there and managers have a genuine budgetary dilemma over whether to begin with Haaland, Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) or even both.
As of now, Brentford’s most popular player is Mark Flekken (£4.5m). The previous two campaigns have seen the best FPL goalkeeper start at this cheap value. Indeed, the combination of both him and Hákon Valdimarsson (£4.0m) gives the rare situation of a club’s top two stoppers costing just £8.5m combined, a potential bargain for FPL managers.
Exciting differentials
Meanwhile, Bees midfielder Bryan Mbeumo (£7.0m) is currently in only 6.5% of Gameweek 1 squads, meaning he could be a brilliant differential.
In FPL, a differential is a player with low ownership who has the potential to do very well. These can help you shoot up the rankings and mini-leagues.
Mbeumo returned four goals in the first four matches of 2023/24 and, by Gameweek 10, he was the fifth-highest points scorer with 67.
Looking around other teams’ recent friendlies, it’s also worth keeping an eye on Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers (£5.0m) and Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh (£5.5m).
At Tottenham, Brennan Johnson (£6.5m) had more big chances (22) than premium colleague Son Heung-min (£10.0m) last season. Whilst Fulham forward Rodrigo Muniz (£6.0m) faces promoted pair Leicester and Ipswich during the opening three rounds.
None of the above exceeds 8% ownership!
