Brentford head to Bournemouth on Saturday, after an international break where 16 of our players were called up by their nations.

The Cherries currently sit 12th with two wins, two draws and three defeats so far this season, but have conceded the second most goals in the division (19).

There are also some tantalising games elsewhere in the division, with the North London derby on Saturday and Manchester derby on Sunday, so which players could be worth transferring into your team ahead of Gameweek 9?

Brentford

Mbeumo

Bryan Mbeumo - £5.9m

Bryan Mbeumo won his first Cameroon cap during the international break and will be ready to contribute for the Bees ahead of a potential World Cup campaign later this year.

This campaign, he has scored twice in seven games and will look to add to his tally against a Bournemouth defence that has conceded 19 times already this term.

Mbeumo also scored four goals last season but hit the woodwork more than any other player in the league (7). At £5.9m, the forward looks like an enticing option.

Ben Mee - £4.5m

This is Ben Mee’s eighth season in the Premier League and the experienced defender has played in every game so far this campaign.

He has the most points of any Brentford defender this campaign (20) and has made the most interceptions (2.6) and is ranked second for clearances (2.9).

The centre-back is also a danger from set-pieces - his goal against Manchester United was evidence of that - and scored three goals in 21 games for Burnley last season.

Best of the rest

James Maddison FPL

James Maddison - £7.9m

Despite losing 5-2 to Tottenham before the international break, James Maddison was the Foxes’ standout performer, picking up an impressive seven points in the defeat.

He scored and was unlucky not to contribute further, having created numerous opportunities for his team-mates, which was highlighted by the four key passes he recorded.

This week Brendan Rodgers’ side, who are still looking for their first win, take on Nottingham Forest on Monday night, with the East Midlanders heading into this one on the back of four straight defeats, where they have conceded 14 goals in the process.

Jose Sa - £5.0m

Jose Sa has been one of the must-have goalkeeper picks since he signed for Wolves from Olympiacos last season. During the 2021/22 campaign, he amassed 146 points in FPL - a total bettered by only three goalkeepers in the division.

This season, he has been similarly impressive, having recorded the second-highest points (37) when it comes to goalkeepers.

Wolves face West Ham this weekend, who have scored the joint-fewest goals in the league (3, the same as Bruno Lage’s side), so a low-scoring game could be on the cards.

Wildcards

Jack Grealish FPL

Jack Grealish - £6.8m

Despite failing to break into the Manchester City first team at the start of this season, Jack Grealish’s performance against Wolves before the international break could earn him a start against local rivals Manchester United this weekend.

He scored his first goal of the season in that game at Molineux and this could be a chance for the England international to finally show what he's made of in a City shirt.

Whilst United have had an upturn in form since their 4-0 defeat to Brentford, there is still some vulnerability at the back and there’s a chance that Grealish can add to his tally at the Etihad on Sunday.

Neal Maupay - £6.1m

Former Brentford striker Neal Maupauy scored his first Everton goal against West Ham before the international break and will be keen to add to his tally this gameweek.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin still out injured, Maupay is currently Frank Lampard’s centre-forward option and will likely feature against Southampton on Saturday.

The Saints have lost three of their last four games and, despite only conceding four goals in that time, the striker will be primed to score when returning to the South Coast.
