Former striker George Francis has become the latest former players to be inducted into the Brentford FC Hall of Fame.

The 80-year-old was at Griffin Park on Saturday, March 8, when Brentford played Bradford City.

He was presented with a salver to mark his induction by  Brentford Chairman Cliff Crown.

George had two spells at Brentford and ended his time at Griffin Park in second place for the number of goals scored for the Club.

He came through the youth ranks at Griffin Park, making his debut in 1955, scoring against Walsall.

By the time he left for Queens Park Rangers in 1962 he had scored 121 goals in 243 games in all competitions, 110 in 228 Football League games.

He returned to Brentford after a short spell at QPR and scored 15 more goals in 47 more games, 14 of them coming in 32 Football League games.

George ended his Football League career at Gillingham and left Brentford with a record of 136 goals in 280 games, 124 of them coming in 260 Football League matches.

Only Jim Towers, who partnered George for six prolific years at Griffin Park, has scored more goals for The Bees.

George joins Malcolm MacDonald, Dai Hopkins, Joe James, Phil Holder, Dean Holdsworth, Jackie Graham, Alan Hawley and Bobby Ross previously inducted.

The Hall of Fame is administered jointly by the Club, and The Brentford FC Former Players’ Association.

It is expected that more former players will be honoured over the course of the season, and beyond.
