- Daniel Ian Bentley was born on 13 July 1993, in Basildon, Essex.

- He has signed a four-year deal at Griffin Park to take him through to the end of the 2019/20 season.

- The goalkeeper started his career in the Arsenal academy, switching to Southend United before his 16th birthday.

- Braintree Town gave Dan his first experience of First Team football when he made two appearances on loan against Welling United and Dover Athletic in February 2011.

- He made his professional debut for Southend on 22 October 2011, coming on as a substitute for the injured Glenn Morris in the second half of a 4-1 win over Torquay United.

- An injury to First Team goalkeeper Paul Smith saw Dan get his first full run of games during the 2012/13 season. His full debut came on 22 September 2012 against Exeter City, a 2-1 win.

- Later that season, he was brought on as a substitute for Smith in the EFL Trophy southern area Semi-Final against Oxford United just for the penalty shootout. It worked, Dan saved Alfie Potter’s spot-kick and Southend won 5-3.

- He became first choice goalkeeper for the 2013/14 League Two campaign, making a total of 53 appearances and keeping 19 clean sheets in the league.

- In the second half of that season, John Egan joined The Shrimpers on loan from Sunderland.

- Bentley and Egan made a total of 15 appearances together for The Shrimpers, including both legs of the 2014 League Two Play-Off Semi-Final, a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Burton Albion.

- Despite interest reported from several Premier League clubs, Dan stayed with Southend the following season, helping them to promotion with victory in the League Two Play-Off Final.

- The 2014/15 season saw Dan break a Club record of 10 consecutive home clean sheets with 12 in a row between 15 November and 25 April. The record was previously held by Mervyn Cawston in the 1980/81 season.

- At the end of the season, he received all three of the Club’s Player of the Year awards; Players’ Player, Supporters’ Player and Community Player of the Year. He was also named in the League Two PFA Team of the Year.

- Last season Dan made 48 appearances, keeping 12 clean sheets as Southend finished 14th in League One.

- Internationally, Dan can represent England but has yet to be selected at any level.
