There has been a change in the Brentford FC coaching staff with the arrival of Iñaki Caña Pavón as First Team Goalkeeper Coach. Simon Royce, who held that position for eight years, has left Griffin Park.

Iñaki has joined the Club from Danish side FC Nordsjælland and will be in place when Brentford return for pre-season training at the end of the month.

Iñaki had been at Nordsjælland for 18 months and helped them finish third in the table in the, recently concluded, 2017/18 season, their best finish for five years. He has also worked at a collection of clubs in Spain and in the academy of Futbol Club Barcelona, where he started as a player. Iñaki played for Barcelona C before moving in to coaching, having come through the ranks at the Catalan giants.

The 42-year-old Spaniard created his own goalkeeper academy in Barcelona in 2013. He has overseen it, along with his work in professional football, for the past five years. Iñaki worked at Centre d'Esports Sabadell Futbol Club, in the third tier of Spanish football, before moving to Nordsjælland in January 2017.

Simon Royce leaves Brentford after eight seasons in West London. He arrived as Player/Goalkeeper Coach in the summer of 2010 and made two appearances in his first season at the Club. He retired in the summer of 2011 to concentrate on coaching and has worked with Brentford’s First Team goalkeepers ever since.
