The Griffin Park pitch is being dug up today in order that it can be replaced in time for Brentford’s next Sky Bet Championship home match. The Bees were due to play Birmingham City today, Tuesday 18 August, but the match has been postponed and will now take place on Tuesday 29 September - kick-off 7.45pm.
The decision was taken so the pitch could be re-laid before The Bees are next at home, when they face Reading on Saturday 29 August. The Club believe the action is best way to ensure it is at a high standard for the rest of the 2015/16 season.
Work has been ongoing over the past few days to prepare the drainage system, installed this summer, for the new turf that is about to be laid. The current playing surface is being removed and Griffin Park will be prepared over the coming days for new turf.
The whole process is expected to be complete by next Wednesday, 26 August, with the pitch ready to play on at that point. The Club’s neighbours have been advised that some evening work may be necessary in order to meet the required timescale.
Mark Devlin, Brentford FC Chief Executive, said: “The playing surface will come up today and we expect to see a green pitch back down at Griffin Park in just over a week. The time scale is tight but we are told it is feasible and our contractors will do all that is necessary to ensure it is ready.
“I would like to remind supporters that the Ticket Office can refund any tickets that cannot be used for the rearranged date. And if any supporter has been unable to secure a refund on travel tickets bought for the match we will reimburse them up to £100.”
