Bradley Clayton’s 15th goal of the season set up a London derby in the Under-18 Professional Development League Two final after Brentford came from behind to beat Huddersfield Town.

The hosts took the lead just before half-time as Rekiel Pyke slotted home from close range after Nik Tzanev had parried a Jack Boyle shot.

Jon De Souza’s side got back into the match just after the break when Seth Owens poke home from close range and then Clayton capped off the comeback as he finished off a fine team goal.

The win sets up a final against Charlton Athletic next week to decide who will be crowned Under-18 PDL Two National Champions.

Injury had deprived Jon De Souza of three of his preferred XI as Kyjuon Marsh-Brown, Courtney Senior and Tom Field all missed out.

Jeremiah Kamanzi started on the left with Makhosini Khanye on the right-wing and Owens moved from centre-back to left-back.

The hosts, who won the fixture earlier in the season 3-0, started with the lively Pyke up front, closely supported by Boyle, Liam Coogans and Callum Charlton.

Neither side could really get control of the game in the warm sunshine at The John Smith’s Stadium in the early stages and it was a very scrappy affair to begin with.

Aside from a Boyle effort straight at Tzanev and a Pyke header that The Bees stopper parried away neither goal came under any threat in the opening half hour.

Brentford were dominating possession and probing for space but the hosts were closing down that space well and looking good more dangerous when they went on the attack.

Jon De Souza’s side should have gone ahead on the half-hour as their high-press forced an error but Clayton shot tamely at Ryan from 12 yards.

The Bees looked to be getting the upper hand on the match as it approached half-time and some brave defending denied Khanye at the near post before Herson Rodrigues Alves skewed an effort wide from the resulting corner.

The two sides appeared to be going in level at the break but The Terriers grabbed a lead late on in the half as Tzanev parried Boyle’s long-range effort and Pyke kept his cool to slide under the Brentford keeper from eight yards.

Brentford hadn’t done too much wrong in the first-half at all and they started the second-half very much on the front foot.

Clayton was dropping deeper to collect possession and his passing range began to find attacking players in dangerous areas.

It was Clayton who won the free-kick that saw Ryan fail to hold Westbrooke’s effort and Owens pounced from close range to level the scores.

Westbrooke whistled a shot over the bar from 30 yards before Brentford should really have taken the lead.

Austin has barely been on the pitch 30 seconds before Clayton’s lovely weighted ball freed the striker but he shot first time and it was easy for Ryan.

The striker didn’t have to wait long to redeem himself as he was heavily involved in the decisive goal.

Audrius Laucys played the ball into the striker who clipped a pass round the corner for Clayton to race through and clinically find the back of the net via the inside of the far post.

The hosts were under pressure now and Jon De Souza’s side were finding increasing joy on the break without being able to fashion a clear cut chance.

Tony Carss side did come close to an equaliser as Regan Booty whipped a free-kick narrowly wide of Tzanev’s right-hand upright.

The hosts pushed men forward in the closing stages searching for the leveller but The Bees defence were getting everything in the way.

Laucys got a vital touch as Pyke went to shoot and then as the clock approached 90, Milenge and Owens got brave blocks in the way of goal-bound efforts.

Ronan Coughlan was inches away from sending the match to extra time but his lobbed effort from 25 yards landed on the roof of the net and then a sweeping move saw Boyle shoot straight into the arms of Tzanev.

As it was though Brentford’s defence held firm to send them into next weekend’s national final.
