The 26-year-old joined on a three-year deal after an impressive season in the Eredivisie with Twente. The defensive midfielder has been on The Bees’ radar for a while and Kamo said he always knew that Brentford was the place he wanted to come to.

“It’s good to finally be here,” said Kamo, speaking to iFollow after signing. “It has been a long time coming but I am happy to be here. I have waited because it always felt good with Brentford. Everyone believes in me here and it is a good step for me to challenge myself. I have had chats with the coach and the Directors of Football and this is a club with ambition that wants to grow. I am not one to take the easy way out and I went with my gut. I know that this was the right decision for me. I needed to make the next step in my career and I believe that Brentford will help me to develop into a better player.”

Kamo led the Dutch top-flight last season in completed passes by a midfielder as he helped Twente to a seventh-placed finish, their best since 2014. The South African international is looking forward to the different challenges that English football will throw up but also feels he has plenty to give the league too.

“The intensity of football is different here and I am looking forward to experiencing all the different things that English football has to offer,” said Kamo. “I am a very technical player for my position in defensive midfield. I anticipate situations and I always look to play the first ball forward. I want to create a lot of chances and create a lot of goals. Although I am not one for scoring that much hopefully that will improve. I am a guy that keeps the team going and I am looking forward to getting to know my teammates.”

While at Twente, Kamo earned the nickname of The General for his performances at the heart of a young side. Kamo says he doesn’t mind the nickname at all and is looking to bring that leadership into what is another young side at Griffin Park.

“I had that nickname because I had a bit more of a leadership role at FC Twente,” revealed Kamo. “They had a lot of young players and I had to step up. I did that and my teammates recognised it and started calling me The General. Leading on the pitch has become a part of me. I feel with all my experience and all the ups and downs I have been through in my career I have something to give back. I feel that I can do that here. I am looking forward to getting to know my teammates. Once the ball gets rolling then things will click. I am looking forward to that.”
