Ian Carlo Poveda has received another call-up for the England Under-16 squad as he joins up with the Young Lions for the Montaigu Tournament later this month. The tournament, held in the Loire region of France, will see Dan Micciche’s reigning champions take on Russia, USA and Brazil in a round-robin format ahead of a final’s day.
The attacking midfielder has been a regular for England’s Under-16s this season since making his debut in two friendlies against the USA back in August. Ian Carlo played in all three matches as England won the Nike International Cup in December and was also a key part of their squad for last month’s UEFA Development Tournament which also saw England victorious.
Speaking after Ian Carlo’s call-up Academy Director Ose Aibangee said: “It is great news for Ian Carlo and for the Academy that he has been called-up to the England squad again. Ian Carlo has shown a consistently high level of performance this season which has got him to this level but he must keep this up in order to progress. To have a player from our Academy continually involved in the national set-up, playing with and against some of the best players in the world at his age, is a reward for both Ian Carlo’s hard work and the hard work of all the staff at Jersey Road.”
Ian Carlo joined The Bees from Barcelona in the summer of 2014 and made his Under-21s debut later that season against Charlton Athletic. This season he has scored three goals in 15 appearances for the Under-18s and also featured from the bench for the Under-21s twice, against Birmingham City and Millwall.
