Brentford attacker Yoane Wissa has been called up to the Democratic Republic of Congo squad for two upcoming matches. Congo DR are attempting to qualify for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup. They play Madagascar twice in the coming weeks as they continue that process.
Congo DR are in Group J of the second phase of the qualification tournament. They have drawn two games so far, away to Benin and at home to Tanzania, and sit third in the group. The team that tops the group will have a home and away tie next March to see if they reach the World Cup, being held in Qatar at the end of next year.
Wissa was named in a 53-man initial squad earlier this month and has now been confirmed in the final squad. The squad will meet up next week, after Brentford’s Premier League match against West Ham, and host Madagascar next Thursday, 7 October. The return match will be on Monday 11 October.
Wissa was first called up by Congo DR last year. He made his debut against Burkina Faso and scored on his second appearance, and last to date, against Morocco. This will be the first time he has joined up with the squad since that match against Morocco.
