Kevin Schade was one of the bright spots for Germany’s Under-21s as they crashed out in the group stages of the European Championships without a win to their name.
Schade, who made his move to Brentford from SC Freiburg permanent earlier this month, played every minute in Germany’s three group games in Georgia where Antonio Di Salvo’s side were made to pay for missed opportunities.
Their opening 1-1 draw, against an Israel side who played 45 minutes with 10 men, saw them miss a penalty in each half as they failed to make their dominance count.
They again had the better of the game against Czechia, registering 28 shots on goal, but were undone by an 87th-minute Martin Vitik strike in a 2-1 defeat.
Those results meant that Wednesday’s game against England became must-win. However, the Young Lions proved too much for Germany, racing into a two-goal lead through Jacob Ramsey and Harvey Elliott.
That was how it stayed in Batumi as Germany finished bottom of Group C with just a point to their name.
Schade’s three appearances took him to eight in total for Germany U21s. He also earned two senior caps for Der Mannschaft earlier this year as Hansi Flick’s side prepare for next summer’s European Championship on home soil.
