The international football season continues tonight as England play France in a friendly international and the Confederations Cup will start shortly. But for Brentford’s international players, the latest batch of fixtures has come to an end. Eight Brentford players went away with their teams over the past few weeks and two more were also called-up. In total, those eight players picked up eight caps, and plenty of air miles and experience, between them.

Ellery Balcombe and Chris Mepham were at the prestigious Toulon Tournament in France. Ellery was part of the England squad that won the tournament. The Brentford B goalkeeper, 17, played one game in the Under-20 tournament as England beat Japan 2-1. The Three Lions beat Ivory Coast on penalties in the final. Chris was in the Wales squad and also played in one game, a 2-2 draw against the beaten finalists Ivory Coast. Wales were unbeaten but went out before the knock-out stages.

Andreas Bjelland, Henrik Dalsgaard and Lasse Vibe were in the Denmark squad for two internationals. Lasse came on as a substitute in a friendly draw with Germany while Henrik played the latter stages of a 3-1 World Cup qualifying win over Kazakhstan. Andreas was an unused substitute in both matches.

Romaine Sawyers was involved in two matches for St Kitts and Nevis. The Caribbean nation were beaten in away friendlies by both Armenia and Georgia. Romaine played in both matches.

John Egan was part of the Republic of Ireland squad for a three-match run. He played in the first one of those, a defeat to Mexico in the United States, and was an unused substitute for a friendly win over Uruguay. Ireland drew 1-1 with Austria in a World Cup qualifier in the last match of the triple-header but John wasn’t in the squad.

Lukas Talbro was called up to the Denmark Under-18 squad for back-to-back friendlies against Greece. Lukas played in the first match, a 1-0 defeat, but not in the second, a 5-2 win.

Two other Brentford players also received recognition. Rico Henry was named in the England Under-20 squad for the World Cup, held in South Korea. England went on to win the tournament but Rico had to withdraw as he had not recovered from a knee injury. Brentford B attacker Theo Archibald was named in the Scotland squad for the Toulon Tournament but was withdrawn just before the start.
