Raphaël Calvet was an unused substitute as France opened their Jeux de la Francophonie campaign with a 4-1 victory over Canada in Nice, France.

The Under-20 tournament, part of a wider sporting and cultural games for French speaking nations, sees France drawn in a Group D with Canada, DR Congo and Rwanda.

Les Blues trailed 1-0 midway through the second-half but, after Canada were reduced to ten men in the 69th minute, they netted four time in the final 20 minutes to seal victory.

The French side face DR Congo this afternoon, Sunday, in their second group game before playing Rwanda on Tuesday in their final group game.

The winner of France’s group will face the winner of the group containing Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad and Morocco in Friday’s Semi-Final with the Final and third/fourth placed Play-Off being contested next Sunday.

Will Grigg was also an unused substitute as Northern Ireland were defeated 4-2 by Portugal at Windsor Park in a World Cup Qualifying Group F match.
