Brentford’s latest arrival Ji-soo Kim has expressed his excitement after putting pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Bees.

Kim makes the move to west London from K League two side Seongnam and will officially join the club on 1 July, subject to international clearance. The 18-year-old will join the B team upon their arrival for pre-season training on Thursday.

Speaking for the first time since becoming a Brentford player, the centre-back explained how the Robert Rowan Performance Centre is the right place for him to continue his development.

“I feel grateful I can play for a team as big as Brentford,” Kim began.

“I am looking forward to seeing myself doing well here. I knew the facilities were built recently and I think they did a great job with it. As a football player, I can’t think of a better place to train, it’s an ideal setting that will allow me to grow.”

Kim revealed the competitive setting that Brentford has to offer was one of the key reasons he decided to join the club, with the youngster pointing to the international talent in the first-team squad as something that inspires him.

He continued: “I am aware that this is a competitive environment, there are a lot of international players and just playing with them will be a great experience for me. I will work very hard and will do my best so that I can participate in as many matches as possible.”

The South Korean youth international recently impressed in the Under-20 World Cup where he featured in all seven games for his country as they finished fourth place in the competition.

Speaking on his World Cup experience, Kim said: “It offered me the chance to face international players for the first time and I learned a great deal.”

The new signing went onto explain what Brentford fans can expect to see from him: “I see myself as a player that cares about the team's results rather than individual results, I would like to think that I am a smart defensive player.”
